The Mackinac Bridge

Why does someone cross the Mackinac Bridge?  Some do it to get to the other side, but many do it just for the thrill of the elevated view of the Straits of Mackinac.  The middle of the bridge is about 200 ft about the water, and its span is 5 miles long!  The mighty Mac, as most people in the area call it, is the third longest suspension bridge in the world, and the largest in the Western Hemisphere.  The Mighty Mac draws around 80,000 people to it on Labor Day, because that is the one day a year that it is opened up to the public to walk across for their annual bridge walk.  People travel from all over just to walk the bridge!
